LipStix Remix Tutorial and Review

I found out about LipStix Remix while browsing YouTube looking for DIY lipstick-making tutorials. This product aims to help us make the most of our lipsticks by enabling us to fix broken lipsticks or easily make a brand new lipstick from the remaining product at the end of our lipstick tubes. Here's a description of LipStix Remix from its official website.
Do you have an increasing supply of practically new lipstick in a drawer because they are not the right color? Do you ever notice all of the lipstick left in the end of the tube and wish there was a convenient way to use it? Have you ever needed to repair a broken or melted lipstick? The Original LipStix ReMix System includes a patent pending lipstick mold that provides an affordable and easy way to mix your lipstick and create a new professionally shaped lipstick in just minutes.
I was so curious about this product that I went ahead and ordered this online. I got this for $19.95 from Amazon.

The kit contained 4 empty lipstick tubes, 4 empty lipstick tubs, 2 cups, 4 plastic spatulas, and 1 lipstick mold.

I went into my lipstick collection and looked for products that I don't use either because I don't like the texture or the color doesn't look good on me. I was able to gather the following lipsticks that I was willing to experiment with.

Next, I started swatching different lipsticks and blending them to see which would look good combined. I decided that these three lipsticks below when blended together made a very pretty lipstick shade.

(From left to right: Avon, Maybelline, Tonymoly, lipbalm)

The light colored Maybelline lipstick lightened the deep red Avon one, while the orange Tonymoly one warmed up the otherwise cool toned shade. The lipbalm added some much needed moisture to the concoction. Below is a photo of the experimental swatch of these four lip products combined.

Next, I used one of the included plastic spatulas to cut a portion of each lipstick and placed the fragments in the included cup. I wasn't really sure how much product was needed so I guess I just over estimated. At this point, it is better to have more since you can always re-melt the excess product.

Next, I microwaved the cup in order to melt the lipsticks inside. According to the instructions included in the kit, the consistency of the melted lipsticks should be that of whole milk.

I then poured the melted lipsticks into the lipstick mold, which was included in the kit. Since there was a bit of excess melted lipstick, I poured this into one of the small tubs included in the kit. I can reuse this if needed.

Check out the finished product below.

It's a little bit darker than the initial blended swatch I made. Nevertheless, I like it! The texture of the finished product is very smooth, creamy, and moisturizing, thanks to the small amount of lipbalm I added.

Not bad for my first LipStix Remix experiment! The kit was very fun and easy to use. I'm definitely going to try this again sometime.
