My most recent trip to Singapore (last week) didn't result to a whole lot of makeup or beauty related purchases. Since I just came from Los Angeles where makeup was (significantly) cheaper, everything in Singapore just seemed so expensive!!! Still, I managed to pick up a few lipsticks at the airport Duty Free while waiting for my flight back to the Philippines.
I bought 3 Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks for SGD 9.00 each and 1 Chanel Rouge Coco Shine for around SGD 36.00 each. Yup, the Chanel one was expensive but I've read so many rave reviews (especially for the shade "Boy") so I convinced myself that had to try it!
I got three different shades of pink from the Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick line:
Below are photos of the three different shades (the bullets and swatched) in the following order: 148 Summer Pink, 165 Pink Hurricane, and 015 Born With It.
148 Summer Pink is a bright pink with cool undertones. 165 Pink Hurricane is bright pinkish brick red with warm undertones. 015 Born With It is a light, pinkish nude. All three lipsticks are pigmented and have shimmer. When I apply them on my lips, they all go on smooth and smell like vanilla. The formula feels a bit thick and heavy on the lips, probably because these are supposed to be long wearing lipsticks.
I'd have to say that among the three, my favorite shade is 015 Born With It. It's a lipstick that I'll be comfortable wearing in any occasion. My only gripe about these lipsticks so far, is that the packaging seems a bit on the cheap side. When I apply the lipstick straight from the tube, it moves around a bit, causing the side of the lipstick bullet to be dinged by the tube. It's a minor but annoying flaw.
Now on to the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine, my only splurge during this visit!
I got this in the shade Boy, which is a warm pinkish nude that is quite sheer. Photos of the lipstick and a swatch can be seen below.
I must say that this lipstick feels great on the lips. It applies very smoothly, feels super light and moisturizing on the lips, but is not sticky at all. It is not long wearing, but this is expected from a moisturizing lipstick. One thing I don't particularly like about this though is its smell. It smells strongly like an old lady's perfume. This is not a deal breaker for me but I just wanted to point it out. Despite this, I am definitely loving this lipstick! I think this will be my go to lipstick from now on (at least until I have a new favorite). :-)
