Shiseido Sun Protection Stick Foundation in Orchre Review

I'm here today to review Shiseido's Sun Protection Stick Foundation. I bought this for around PHP1900 at the Shiseido boutique in Greenbelt. When I visited the Shiseido store a few weeks ago, I was planning to get the Shiseido Stick Foundation SPF15 as I have mentioned in this post. However, they didn't have the one I wanted on stock so I settled for this one.

Shiseido Sun Protection Stick Foundation

The product literature is as seen below:
A treatment enriched stick foundation that defends against powerful UVA/UVB rays as it provides a sheer natural finish. Glides on effortlessly to give skin a smooth radiant look. Unites optimal sun protection with skin-caring makeup. Minimizes imperfections with a natural dewy finish. Very water resistant. Non-comedogenic. Dermatologist tested.
The ingredients used in this product are as seen below. Although I'm not that knowledgeable with regards to these ingredients, it's a relief that this doesn't contain any parabens.

This cream foundation is packaged in a very cute green and orange container, the color scheme of which is similar to its other sun protection products. To reveal more product, you simply had to twist up the orange wheel and more product appears like a lipstick.

My only concern with the packaging is that it's possible to twist up the product while the cap is on, which may result to a mess inside the packaging. Still, intelligent adults will most likely not do this, so I don't think this will be a huge problem. And although this is not very evident from my photos, this thing is tiny! It is only around 3 inches tall, which makes it a nice addition to your makeup bag.

Application of this product is very easy. I just swipe the product three times on each cheek and once each on my forehead, nose, and chin. Afterwards, I blend this with either my fingers or the Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush. The texture of this product is smooth and creamy, without being sticky. After it sets, it feels like I have nothing on my skin. The finish looks like very natural, flawless skin.

Unfortunately, this foundation only came in two colors: Beige and Ochre. Beige is pink based, while Ochre is yellow based. After checking the swatches, I decided to go with Ochre, despite it looking a bit too dark for my skin. When I wear this foundation, my face looks noticeably darker than my neck and chest. I try to overcome this by highlighting the center of my face and my cheekbones with a lighter foundation (my leftover MAC Mineralize SPF15 Foundation in NC20). The effect is nice... like I applied bronzer on the sides of my face as a contour.

Below are swatches of the product on my arm, the one at top is not blended, while the one at the bottom is blended.

I like the convenience of having this little thing in my bag because it makes foundation application such a breeze. If only I had an exact shade match, this would be such a perfect product for me. Regardless, I think it's a keeper! Because if this, I'm now considering getting a tan. ^_^

  2. Hello Maris!

Thank you for the lovely post! I am considering buying this foundation however I am not sure if it will work for me. I have combination skin, sometimes dry sometimes slightly oily and extremely oily when I use the wrong products :P
I have very acne prone skin with lots of active acne and I'm afraid that this stick foundation will make it worse because of the waxes and occlusive ingredients that make this stick foundation well, a stick. What are your thoughts on that?
As well, how in the world do you suggest to remove this at night? Because it is water proof I imagine it's as difficult to remove as the blue Shiseido sunscreens so would I need an oil cleanser? Which ones would you recommend?

    Thanks for the lovely post,

    Kate

    1. This worked great on my normal to dry skin, but I'm not sure if it'll work on acne prone skin. It might be too oily or too heavy for everyday use for acne prone or oily skin. It might be best to try a swatch first from the counter to see how it'll react on your skin.

I use an oil based makeup remover to remove this at night, and then finish off with toner. The ones from Shu Uemura are great, but a bit expensive. But I found a generic brand at Watsons that worked fine for me. ^_^
